Samantha Allen, Anacapa to Oxnard

Posted by SBCSA, 5 June 2015

Samantha Allen, 22, of Escondido, California completed the first California Channel Island swim of 2015 on Saturday. Escorted by Catalina record-holder Grace van der Byl on kayak, Allen crossed the channel in 6 hours, 45 minutes, 41 seconds – a fast time despite choppy conditions and strong cross-currents on the first half.

This was one of the earliest Santa Barbara Channel swims we have sanctioned - later only than Jim Neitz’s Anacapa swim on May 6, 2011. Water temperatures hovered between 61 and 63F, according to observer Dave Van Mouwerik.

Congratulations to Samantha, the 47th person to swim from Anacapa to the mainland!
